Our mission is to inspire people to work creatively in spite of the considerable obstacles the pandemic presents, and to forge community bonds through a shared experience and lots of laughter.
How We Came to Be:
The Covid Commedia team has known each other and been doing theater together since long before the pandemic. Seamus and Lulu became friends at Hanover High School and did their first show together in 2011. Cameron and Seamus met in college at Muhlenberg and have been making art together since they were freshmen. Pre-COVID Cameron was living in New Jersey, Lulu had just moved to Brooklyn, and Seamus was across the ocean working as the technical director at the Accademia dell'Arte - a small Commedia dell'Arte school in Arezzo, Italy (Lulu and Seamus both spent their junior semesters abroad studying at the Accademia). The pandemic left all three of them unemployed and forced Seamus out of Italy and Lulu and Cameron out of their metropolitan homes. With the prospect of finding any kind of theatrical employment looking just so so bad, they decided to take matters into their own hands and make their own theater. Lulu, Cameron, and Seamus relocated to Hanover, NH and thus Covid Commedia was born. While quarantined together, the three of them wrote and developed their own Commedia dell'Arte show. They hope to share their work with the Upper Valley until its too cold to perform outside.
